Terms of use
These terms apply to the use of the Soihtu app. You accept them when you create an account. The processing of personal data is described separately in the privacy notice.
Contents
1. The service and who provides it
Soihtu is a mobile app in which a guardian photographs the material for a child's test and the app uses AI to produce practice questions from it. The child answers the questions on their own device and can ask for explanations. The service is provided by a private individual, Antti Immonen, [email protected], 040 185 2001.
Soihtu is an aid to practice. It is not an educational institution, it does not give grades and it does not replace teaching or a teacher's guidance.
2. The account and the guardian's responsibility
- The account is created by an adult who is the child's guardian or who acts with the guardian's permission.
- When you register you give your name, your email address and a password, and you are responsible for their accuracy.
- You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what is done with your account.
- You are responsible for having the right to give your child's details to the service and to consent to the AI processing of the exam material.
- You can invite another adult into the family. The invited adult sees the family's children, tests and practice. Only invite adults who have the right to see this information.
3. A child's use
The child uses the service on their own device, which is linked to the family with a single-use code given by the guardian. No email account is created for the child, and the child cannot change the family's details, invite anyone or make purchases.
The guardian sees the child's answers and the explanations the child asks for. Tell your child about this.
4. The free trial
- The trial lasts 7 days and starts only when you photograph the first exam material — not when you create the account.
- After the account has been created, the trial can be started within 30 days.
- During the trial a family can have at most three children.
- The trial is a one-off: the same email address gets it once. Deleting the account and creating it again does not give a new trial.
- When the trial ends, the tests already created stay there for the child to practise on, but creating new tests requires a subscription.
5. Subscription and payments
The price of the subscription depends on the number of children in the family:
| Children | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| 1 child | 7,90 € | 79 € |
| 2 children | 12,90 € | 129 € |
| 3 children | 16,90 € | 169 € |
| 4 children or more | 19,90 € | 199 € |
The prices include VAT. The subscription is bought from the App Store, which means that the payment agreement is made with Apple on Apple's terms:
- The payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription continues automatically until it is cancelled. The charge is made at the end of a period, for the following period.
- You can cancel the subscription at any time in the subscription settings of your device's Apple account. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and the service is available until then. It has to be made at least 24 hours before the period ends, so that the following period is not charged.
- Refunds and credits are claimed from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- If the number of children grows beyond the tier subscribed to, adding new children requires a subscription to a larger tier. Tests already created are kept.
Prices may be changed. A change does not apply to the current period, and it will be announced in advance in the app or by email.
Right of withdrawal. Digital content is delivered immediately after purchase. When you confirm the purchase, delivery of the content begins at once, and the consumer's 14-day right of withdrawal ends when delivery begins. This does not limit your right to a refund where something has gone wrong.
6. The material you photograph
- The pages you photograph remain your and your family's material. We do not use them for anything other than providing this service.
- You are responsible for having the right to photograph the material and to use it for your child's practice. Photographing textbook pages for your own child's study is ordinary private use; the material must not be shared outside the service.
- Do not photograph pages showing other people's personal data, grades or anything else sensitive.
- You grant the service the right to process the material you photograph to the extent that generating the questions, assessing the answers and giving the explanations requires. The material is not used to train AI models.
7. The limits of the AI
The questions, the assessments and the explanations are produced by AI. It gets things wrong from time to time: a question can miss the point, an assessment can be wrong, an explanation imprecise.
- Soihtu's feedback is not a grade and not an assessment of a child's ability.
- Where there is a conflict, the textbook and the teacher are right.
- If you notice clearly incorrect or inappropriate content, tell us about it: [email protected].
8. Prohibited use
- Using the service for anything other than the practice of your own family's children.
- Sharing accounts outside the family, or reselling the service.
- Uploading unlawful or offensive material, or material that infringes the rights of others.
- Disrupting the operation of the service, loading it automatically or circumventing its protections.
- Circumventing the trial period, the usage limits or the payments.
Breaking these terms may lead to the account being closed. In a serious case the account may be closed without prior notice.
9. Availability and changes
The service is developed continuously, and its features may change. The service may be unavailable from time to time because of maintenance or a fault. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation.
These terms may be changed. Material changes will be announced in the app and, where necessary, you will be asked to accept the terms again. If you do not accept a change, you can stop using the service and delete your account.
If the service is discontinued altogether, at least one month's notice will be given, and the unused part of a period that has been paid for but left unused will be refunded.
10. Limitation of liability
The service is provided as it is. We are not liable for indirect damage, such as lost tests, grades or earnings. Liability in damages is limited to at most the amount you have paid for the service during the six months preceding the damage.
These limitations do not apply to damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, and they do not limit the mandatory rights of a consumer.
11. Ending the agreement
You can delete your account in the app's settings at any time. Deletion ends the agreement. If you are the last adult in the family, the family's data is permanently deleted at the same time. A subscription period that has been paid for is not automatically refunded on deletion — cancel the subscription separately in the settings of your Apple account.
12. Applicable law and disputes
Finnish law applies to the agreement. We aim to settle disagreements first of all by talking: get in touch at [email protected].
As a consumer you can take the matter to the Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariita.fi). Before that, contact the consumer advisory service (kkv.fi/kuluttajaneuvonta). The matter can also be heard in the district court of your place of residence.
