Preparing for a test is something you do together

Photograph the pages of your child's exam material with your phone. Soihtu turns them into practice questions that your child answers on their own device. Your child gets help in Finnish with the tricky parts, and you can see what they already know and what is still worth practising.

The app itself is in Finnish, and so are the questions and explanations it generates. This site is available in English so that you can read the terms and the privacy policy in a language you know. The text in the video above is in Finnish.

How Soihtu works

From exam material to practice in three steps

Once the exam material has been added, your child can practise at their own pace with questions that suit the test.

STEP 1

Photograph the exam material

Take pictures of the pages of the textbook, of handouts or of notes in the exercise book. You can add more pages later if the exam material grows.

STEP 2

Soihtu writes the questions

Soihtu turns the material into practice questions suited to your child's year group. The questions are based on the exam material you added.

STEP 3

Your child practises

Your child answers the questions on their own device. If something stays unclear, they can ask for an explanation with a single tap.

The video is in Finnish.
For your child

Practice without grades

Soihtu says how an answer went and helps your child understand the difficult parts. The point is to learn and to dare to try again.

  • Help with understanding. Your child can ask for a simpler explanation, an example or the reasoning behind an answer.
  • Partial knowledge is noticed too. If there is something right in the answer, Soihtu says so and shows what is still missing.
  • Progress shows topic by topic. The campfire flame grows brighter as your child practises. That way they can see where they have made progress and what is still worth revising.
  • Encouragement from their own grown-up. A guardian's messages appear in the child's own view.
Practice view: the answer is not right yet, Soihtu gives a hint and offers an explanation, an example or the reasoning.
For the guardian

You can see how the preparation is going

Soihtu helps you notice in good time which things your child already has a grip on and where they still need practice. You can look at your child's answers and the explanations they asked for.

  • The situation at a glance. You can see how preparation for the test is progressing.
  • Answers and explanations. You can look through your child's answers and see what they have asked for help with.
  • The topics that need more practice. You know where revising together is worth starting.
  • A shared view for the family. You can invite another adult to follow the same family's practice.
The test view for the guardian: readiness, questions practised and topics with their progress.
Privacy

Your child's data is looked after

Soihtu processes your child's data for the purpose of practice. You can read the details in the privacy notice.

  • No ads and no selling of data. The service is funded by subscription fees.
  • The database and the images are kept in the EU. Google's Gemini API is used to produce the questions, the assessments and the explanations.
  • Your child does not chat freely with the AI. They ask for help with ready-made options that relate to the question being practised.
  • The guardian is in control of the child's profile. An adult creates the profile and can delete the account in the app.
